More Fun at Ukulele Camp!

The fun meter for Camp OoKooLayLay just blasted off the chart!  We have just found out that the irrepressible Andy Andrews (of Santa Cruz Ukulele Club fame) and his more-than lovely wife, Pam, will be joining us, fresh from Kona, at camp.  Heidi Swedberg! Jim D’Ville! Lorrie Freitas! And now, Andy Andrews!  Could you possibly have any more fun with your ‘ukulele than with these guys?  Ukulele Happy Hour just got a whole lot happier.

Luckily, there are still tent-cabins available for any and all nights of camp and motel-style rooms available in Bosch Hall. But please register soon, as we don’t know how long they’ll last.

What do “Seinfeld” and Camp Oo-Koo-Lay-Lay have in common?

Heidi Swedberg!

You may know her as “Susan,”  George Costanza’s ill-fated, envelope-licking fiancée on Seinfeld:

But we know her as a delightful ukulele instructor and entertainer, a perfect addition to the staff of Camp-Oo-Koo-Lay-Lay.

Registration is still open.  Hope you’ll be joining us.

New Options for Camp O

The people have spoken! And what we are hearing is that most of you are not all that interested in sleeping in “rustic” tent cabins with a walk (albeit short) in the dirt to a communal bathroom.

So, we’re going to shake it up a bit and change our offerings somewhat.

While the rustic tent cabins are still available at Camp Oski, as originally planned (and will be until sold-out), we have added  more lodging options (all with ensuite bathrooms) at nearby Pine Crest Chalet for your sleeping/bathing pleasure.  This will give you quite a bit more comfort and flexibility.

  • One-room “cabins”, each with a queen bed and two loft beds (for kids, if you have ‘em), suitable for singles or couples with or without kids. $914/cabin
  • A  “Studio Townhouse” with a full kitchen, queen bed, and two bunks, suitable for couples with kids. $1008/townhouse
  •  “Mini-chalet” with 2 queen beds, and suitable for people who just want to share with one other person. If you don’t already have a roommate, we can find one for you. $1229/chalet

The other new option we’re offering is flexible stays.  That is, as a “walk-in,” you can come for as many, or as few, days as you’d like and you can choose to take your meals at Camp Oski…or not.

To attend Camp OoKooLayLay for a day, with all of the Camp Oski privileges (that includes three full meals a day and all of the other scheduled activities), the cost is $115/day.

If you prefer to fix your own meals and just hang out at your chalet when you’re not ukin’, the cost is $60/day.

And what do you get for that $60 a day?

  • Two or three workshops each day with Jim D’Ville, Elaine de Man, and other guest instructors we’ll be bringing in.
  • Ukulele campfires every night (with s’mores)
  • Open mic opportunities on our own very own stage
  • Unlimited opportunities to make new friends, learn new songs and techniques, and jam the night away
  • Become a charter member of an exclusive group initiating an annual tradition
  • Braggin’ rights

This opens up another option that might have some appeal.  Camping at nearby Pincrest Campground for $20/site/ night.  Camp sites are being snapped up fast, so you should make your reservations, now.

Registration is still open!

Home

Hello, Muddah . . . . . Hello, Fadduh.

Reserve your space now for the first, but certainly not the last, Camp Oo-Koo-Lay-Lay, August 18 – 24, at the Lair of the Golden Bear in the beautiful Central Sierra Nevada, with your hosts Elaine de Man and Jim D’Ville, and special guest instructor Heidi Swedburg  for a full week of ukulele instruction and merriment in the context of a regular summer camp.

The Lair of the Golden Bear is the acclaimed annual summer camp owned and operated by the Cal (UC Berkeley) Alumini Association. Everyone who goes to Camp Oo-Koo-Lay-Lay will have full access to all of the activities and programs available to every other Lair camper with the added benefit of specific ukulele instruction, workshops, jam sessions, and ukulele camp fires each night, and our own stage. It’s a summer camp for people of the ukulele persuasion, especially those who’d like their non-uke-centric family members to join them.

And it’s cheap! Just $849 gets you a spot at Camp Oo-Koo-Lay-Lay for the entire week! Special rates for kids (free – $569) makes this an ideal family vacation, as well. If you’d prefer the comfort of indoor accommodations during your stay, there are motel-style units (Bosch Hall) available at the camp for a small additional fee, cabins at neighboring Pinecrest Chalet, and even a few spots to hook up your motor home.  And we’ve added some new options. If a week seems just a little too long, or you have scheduling conflicts, you can come for a day, or two,or three, or four with our new flex plan  for as little as $93 a day with meals and all camp priveleges and activities.)

It’s not too late to register. All options are still available. If you’d like to join us, please send in in your Registration Form for Camp Oo-Koo-Lay-Lay, as s0on as possible.

Be sure to check out our FAQ page for answers to any questions you may have.

Wait a minute…it’s stopped raining…

kids are swimming…kids are sailing…
